iSight Disabler is now hosted on GitHub!
The repository is now available at: https://github.com/rthomson/isight-disabler.
Using GitHub should make it easier to accept and merge contributions. Do you have a working fix for the latest version of macOS that you want to share back to the community? Send me a pull request and we’ll get that published so everyone can benefit.

Update: macOS 10.11 “El Capitan”
I’ve received multiple reports that iSight Disabler 5.0 no longer works as expected on macOS 10.11 “El Capitan”. It appears that Apple has made some changes to the security model in 10.11 that prevent iSight Disabler from making permission changes to the iSight drivers located in the /System directory. Pull requests are welcome (see GitHub news above).

techslaves.org’s iSight Disabler is an AppleScript provides a graphical interface to disabling (and re-enabling) the iSight/FaceTime (HD) camera found in (many) Apple computer models. iSight Disabler accomplishes this by modifying permissions of the driver files on disk. This technique (probably) prevents (most) applications from using the camera.
The “Disable iSight” button, removes all read access to the driver files (
chmod a-r). The “Enable iSight” button, restore read access to the driver files (
To install the iSight Disabler AppleScript, download a copy to
/Users/<USERNAME>/Library/Scripts/. Use the AppleScript Utility to enable the script menu for easy access to installed AppleScripts. Newer versions of macOS may not show the
Library folder from Finder. Use the
chflags nohidden ~/Library command from Terminal.app to “unhide” your
Library folder in Finder.
