Well, I troubleshot the issue with version 2.5 and ealier on Leopard and discovered that Leopard basically adds a new USB iSight driver, but will use either driver if the other is not available. So I modified the script to make both unavailable and voila!

The script can be downloaded here: http://techslaves.org/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=get18

Total newb here so if I have posted incorrectly, be kind with your flame.

I "manage" a number of student macbooks and thought that the fun of the built-in camera would wane and that my stern warnings about inappropriate cleavage shots would suffice. I was wrong.  This script works wonderfully, however, I have to physically go to each machine to run it which would be no different than just changing the students access to it.  I am hoping that somebody could clue me into how to push this script via ARD to just disable the camera (there is a "send unix command") or better yet, modify it so that when a student launches photobooth, the audio is automatically cranked up and a recorded voice announces to the class "I am playing with photobooth!"  Yeah, part of me really likes the last idea... thanks -Les

Les,

Welcome to the forum. Unfortunately Cense is on vacation for the next three weeks.

I don't know much about the disabler besides that it's an AppleScript. Although it does look like ARD supports scripting, so you may be able to incorporate them somehow:

First off, I'll say thanks for the script. We've been using it for almost three years in our 1 to 1 laptop program.

As I'm setting up some new MacBooks and MacBook Pro 13"s. I just figured out that the script isn't working in Snow Leopard. In Terminal, the permissions look like they are indeed changed for the VDC and QuicktimeUSBVDCDigitizer files (was -rwxr-xr-x  1  root  wheel -- now it's ----------  1  root  wheel). Get info says "You have no access" (everyone/No Access). I restarted just for good measure, but it's still not working.

Any possibility of a version 4 fro Snow Leopard??         ......... Please?

I found a fix that works for me......  so far. Since it's for Snow Leopard I started a new topic in Projects and Articles. Good Luck.
